Perfection Paper Flower Tutorial!

This particular tutorial has only a video available. There are no written instructions.

The use of paper flowers for decorating your home, office, or even possibly as part of the floral decorations for a wedding is a unique and refreshing way to enhance the décor.

The event can be uniquely customized by using it as a backdrop of a head table, an engaging centerpiece to liven up an event or candy table, an impressive backdrop for photos or a photo booth, or as a touch of romance to create an unforgettable event.

Materials:

  • You will need 10 sheets of cardstock in any color that you desire.
  • Scissors
  • Hot glue gun.
  • One Styrofoam ball in size of your choice.
  • Jewels to stick on ball for the centre. (pre-adhesive jewels are best)
  • Additional paper (any type) to create centres. (I used muffin cups)
  • A circle cut out of Bristol board or thick card-stock about 6 inches in diameter.

The Flower Shape:

Here is a step by step instruction for folding the 10 cardstock sheets. There should be six regular size sheets left. Three sheets are folded in half once. Fold a piece of paper twice in half.

The second step is to cut out the petals in each of the folded paper sets with the shape of your choice.

It is important for each paper size to have the same shape.

You need to cut a small slit at the bottom of each petal’s center, with the straight edge facing the center of each petal.

It is important that there are six large, six medium, and four small petals of similar shape.

There are several kinds of shapes in nature you may be able to find, such as the shape of a heart.

Add hot glue to the bottom junction of the slit you made by placing it in the corner of the slit on one side.

Overlap the other side a little and stick together. This will result in a petal that is shaped in a slightly three-dimensional manner.

Starting with the 6 inch circle, begin to stick petals on.

The outer edge of the circle should be used as the starting point for 3 large petals.

Place them equal distances apart. In between the spaces of the first three petals, add the remaining 3 large petals and overlap.

The overlapping process can be carried out with the 6 medium petals.

The remaining four petal leaves need to be placed on opposite sides of one another in the center of the flower.

Take the Styrofoam ball that you will be using for the first step and cut it in half. You can use either a sharp knife or a craft saw to cut the material.

The second step is to create a pattern on the surface of the styrofoam ball using the jewels or rhinestone adhesive of your choice. There is no limit to the amount of colors, shapes, and patterns you can use. Let your imagination run wild!

Then utilize the extra sheet of paper to create an outer edge for the now jeweled Styrofoam half to sit in.

There are many ways to combine these ideas, such as layering the paper muffin cups to create different sizes, or cutting circles of paper and scrunching them in a cone shape to create the same effect as the muffin cups. Affix the center of the paper to the layered paper.

Then glue the completed center to the middle of the finished flower shape and your own gigantic paper flower will be completed.

Regardless of the event, whether it is a wedding or baby shower, these flowers will surely become the centerpiece for the celebration. Used for the backdrop of a table centerpiece. So, have fun with it, and do what you want to do with it, whether it’s a creative, personal touch or maybe even a simple design.
